Muscat – A team of students from Sultan Qaboos University’s Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Department has achieved success at the PetroCup Student Olympiad 2024 ranking fourth globally and first in the Middle East.

Organised by Russia’s Nafta College, the competition featured 38 teams from around the world.

The PetroCup competition is one of the most prestigious events for petroleum and natural gas engineering students, challenging participants to apply their knowledge and skills in petroleum engineering and geology.

Teams are tasked with analysing data and developing a strategy for an oil field virtually.

This impressive achievement highlights the academic and research excellence of Sultan Qaboos University students and underscores the university’s global standing in science and engineering.

Held biannually, PetroCup Student Olympiad encourages students to sharpen their analytical and decision-making skills. It challenges participants to apply their academic knowledge to practical, real-world situations they may face in their future careers.
