Muscat – Efforts to transform Majlis Al Jinn Cave into a global adventure tourism destination are gaining momentum, with the Omran Group opening tender for the development of abseiling activities.
The cave, among the ten largest chambers in the world, is located on the Selma Plateau near Fins village in Quriyat and holds significant cultural and natural value.
Majlis Al Jinn, meaning ‘the meeting place of the spirits’, spans an extraordinary 310m in length and 225m in width, with a floor area of 58,000sqm. The latest initiative aims to turn the site into a hub for adventurers while ensuring its delicate features are preserved.
The Omran Group has called for bids to operate and manage abseiling activities under a
two-year contract. The responsibilities include removing outdated bolts, installing safety and informational signage, and providing transport equipped with safety measures. Plans also involve building a monitoring station, introducing hiking and mountain biking trails, and constructing an elevated boardwalk to safeguard the cave’s fragile environment.
The project underscores Oman’s commitment to eco-tourism and adventure tourism. The initiative aligns with a July 2024 agreement between the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and Omran Group to develop Majlis Al Jinn as a premier eco-tourism destination.
