Muscat – Oman experienced light to moderate rainfall across several regions today, bringing a welcome reprieve as temperatures dipped below the 40°C mark. Villages in Nizwa, situated in the Dakhliyah Governorate, witnessed rain that resulted in the flow of valleys, including Wadi al Musalla, Wadi Kummah, and Wadi al Rahba.
The highest temperatures recorded in the past 24 hours reached 38.7°C in Sunaynah and 38.5°C in Al Mazyunah, signalling a much-needed break from the recent heatwave that has gripped the country.
In South Batinah Governorate, the Wilayat of Nakhal saw light to moderate rain concentrated in mountainous areas and surrounding villages, contributing to the flow of nearby valleys. Rustaq also experienced rainfall, particularly in the villages of Wadi Bani Awf, Wadi al Sahtan, Wadi Bani Ghafir, Wadi Bani Hani, and the Niyabat of al Hawqayn.
Additionally, the al Awabi State saw rainfall focused on mountaintops and the central village, leading to the flow of several valleys, including Wadi Bani Kharous and Wadi Safun. While the rain provided relief, residents remain hopeful for further drops in temperature as the region continues to adjust to changing weather patterns.
As a precaution, the Ministry of Higher Education Research & Innovation has suspended study and transitioned to distance learning in the governorates of South Batinah, Dakhiliyah, North Sharqiyah, Dhahirah and the southern parts of Muscat Governorate due to weather conditions on this day.
