Muscat – To bolster security and order and achieve the highest levels of safety, the Royal Oman Police has completed its preparations for the 2024-25 academic year. They have implemented a range of preventive measures aligned with comprehensive security, traffic, and awareness plans.

Brigadier Engineer Ali bin Salim al Falahi, Director General of Traffic, outlined the measures taken to ensure smooth traffic flow and student safety.

These include intensified traffic awareness campaigns across various media and social media platforms, increased police presence on roads and near schools, effective traffic management to prevent congestion, and additional support for road users.

He stressed the importance of adhering to traffic laws and speed limits, particularly in school zones, maintaining safe distances between vehicles, prioritising pedestrians, and avoiding distractions such as mobile phones.

Regarding awareness efforts, Brigadier Falahi highlighted the crucial role of traffic safety institutes across governorates in promoting traffic awareness.

In 2023, more than 20 specialised training programmes for school bus drivers were conducted, alongside over 640 lectures and awareness activities in both public and private schools. The Traffic Safety Institute also hosted 177 visits from students and kindergarten children.

Traffic safety is a shared responsibility requiring the collective efforts of all stakeholders, Brigadier Falahi emphasised.

He assured that the Royal Oman Police will continue to collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of students and extend awareness initiatives to enhance overall community safety.
