Muscat – Environment Authority (EA) has announced that environmental sciences will be added to the school curriculum in the new academic session with the aim of equipping students with essential knowledge and concepts related to the environment.

EA stated that the initiative is in line with Oman Vision 2040 and designed to instil correct behavioural values and principles towards the environment among students.

Environmental sciences will be introduced gradually, starting with Grade 11 in the 2024-25 academic year and expanding to Grade 12 in 2025-26. It will be part of the elective subjects available to students.

The new curriculum is intended to build on environmental education that begins in Grade 1, continuing through science subjects up to the senior classes.

The first semester will cover four key units, including an introduction to interface management, environmental research and data collection, interactions in marine ecosystems and classification and biodiversity.

Content for the second semester is currently under study, with efforts to analyse and sort the material to ensure it meets the desired educational outcomes.

This initiative represents a significant step in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability among the younger generation.
