Muscat – The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has achieved 54% of its employment plan of this year during the first half of the year.
The ministry stated that all together 14,074 Omanis secured jobs in both the public and private sectors, and these positions were filled either through direct employment or by replacing expatriate workers.
As per the ministry’s report, 6,963 Omanis were employed in the public sector out of the targeted 10,000 positions, while 7,111 Omanis secured jobs in the private sector against the 16,000 positions targeted for the year.
Providing further details, the ministry noted that 305 Omanis completed the employment-linked training programme in the government sector, out of the target of 2,000.
In the private sector, 1,107 Omanis completed a similar programme, against the target of 7,000.
Additionally, on-the-job training and employment programme achieved 44.25% completion figure, benefiting 15,486 Omanis out of the plan’s target of 35,000.
The Ministry of Labour highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between the public and private sectors. This partnership, it stated, is based on a strategic approach and a well-planned workflow, aligned with the Royal Directives of His Majesty the Sultan, which emphasise employment as a cornerstone of the national economy.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to advancing its plan to create job opportunities for citizens across various sectors, regulate the labour market, and increase the proportion of the national workforce in both the public and private sectors.
