Muscat – The Ministry of Labour (MoL) held a pivotal conference on ‘Occupational Safety and Health’ today to observe World Occupational Safety and Health Day.

The event took place in the wilayat of Seeb and aimed to address key issues related to workplace safety and the impact of climate change on occupational health.

The opening ceremony was presided over by H.E. Yaqoub bin Khalfan al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Fisheries in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources. His speech emphasized the Sultanate’s commitment to workers’ well-being in the private sector, in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

Hussein bin Ali al Lawati, from the General Directorate of Labour Welfare at the Ministry of Labour, delivered an address highlighting the government’s focus on protecting workers’ health and safety. He noted that people are the cornerstone of development across all sectors.

The conference featured two major sessions: ‘The Effects of Climate Change and the Efforts Required to Limit Its Effects’ and ‘Occupational Safety and Health in Light of Climate Change.’ These sessions explored the relationship between climate change and workplace hazards.

The two-day conference aims to increase awareness of occupational safety and health, improve safety standards, and promote best practices for reducing workplace accidents and diseases.
