Muscat – The introduction of flexible working hours has been a boon for employees in Ramadan, allowing them to adjust their work schedules to their religious obligations. This approach not only promotes a more inclusive workplace but also plays a role in mitigating peak-hour traffic jams. Should the authorities consider making flexible working hours a standard practice beyond Ramadan? Here is what Muscat Daily readers said –

Flexible working hours helped to ease traffic on the main roads such as Sultan Qaboos Street and Muscat Expressway. Earlier, all employees rushed home after work at 2 pm. I agree that there should be more flexible hours around the year. It’s the same. Approve six months of leave for half of your employees, then another six months for the rest. You will see a huge difference. There’s not much difference in an hour ahead or an hour delayed.

Recent plans, such as widening lanes on Muscat Expressway and implementing flexible working hours throughout the year, are needed for a better future.

Our working hours are from 10am to 1pm, then resume from 4pm to 11 pm. However, customer demand often requires us to work until 2am, leaving little time for sleep. This is especially challenging for me as a Muslim. Despite the extended hours, we receive minimal overtime pay and extra work is unpaid. There should be alternative schedules and fair compensation for overtime, especially for salon staff like myself.
