Muscat – South Batinah Governor’s Office has awarded a waterfront development project in the Al Uwaid area of Musannah to enhance civic amenities and boost tourism.

Stretching over a 2km expanse, the project is poised to transform the region into a vibrant hub for residents and visitors alike.

While highlighting the project’s strategic significance, Masoud bin Saeed al Hashmi, Governor of South Batinah, emphasised its potential to rejuvenate social and cultural life and bolstering the region’s appeal to both locals and tourists. “The Al Uwaid waterfront development is a testament to our commitment to building sustainable and integrated urban spaces. It represents a fusion of modern ideas designed to cater to community members across all age groups,” Hashmi stated.

The project will feature a diverse array of facilities, including restaurants, retail outlets, children’s play areas, both open and enclosed fitness spaces, beach activities and restrooms. The project plan includes pedestrian pathways, cycling tracks, and areas dedicated to leisure and entertainment.

Construction will commence with the development of 3m wide paths, incorporating rental and sales points for bicycles, children’s playgrounds, outdoor gyms and pedestrian walkways. Strategically located seating areas will serve the promenade’s visitors.

The entertainment zone on the beach will offer barbecue facilities, rest areas, water-based activities and horse riding options, promising a comprehensive recreational experience.

Hashmi described the project as a continuation of South Batinah’s developmental ethos. These initiatives aim to establish entertainment and tourism destinations that support economic diversification and holistic development, aligning with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

He further detailed the governorate’s strategic projects, including beautification of Rustaq Gate, waterfront developments in Musannah and Barka, initiation of the Rimal Park project in Nakhal, and consulting services for the Al Khor Boulevard and City Walk projects in Barka and Rustaq, respectively. These projects, among others to be announced soon, underscore South Batinah’s ambitious approach to urban development and tourism enhancement.

According to Sheikh Ahmed bin Ali al Habsi, Wali of Musannah, the Musannah waterfront project is a cornerstone initiative for the governorate. “It is set to bolster the local economy and attract tourists, leveraging its prime location. Currently, the governorate is experiencing a transformative phase, with a surge in diverse projects across all wilayats, capitalising on optimal use of available resources and geographical diversity.”
