1 Feb 2024 OFA appoints new football coach

Muscat – The Oman Football Association (OFA) announced on Thursday the appointment of Czech coach Jaroslav Šilhavý as the new head coach of the Oman national football team.

Šilhavý, aged 62, takes over from Croatian Branko Ivankovic, who was dismissed by the OFA following the team’s underwhelming performance at the recent AFC Asian Cup in Qatar.

Salem bin Saeed bin Salem al Wahaibi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Football Association, has officially signed a deal with Czech coach Jaroslav Šilhavý to lead the technical staff of the national team until 2026.

The contract signing ceremony, held at the Federation’s headquarters, marks the beginning of Šilhavý’s tenure, effective this February.

The Federation’s Board of Directors has entrusted Sjelhavy with the crucial task of leading the national team through the upcoming challenges, including the Asian double qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup finals and the 2027 Asian Cup.
