Muscat – Oman Investment Authority (OIA) has strengthened its presence in the global innovation ecosystem through investments in Cambridge Innovation Capital and Oxford Science Enterprises, expanding its exposure to startups developing technologies in healthcare, life sciences and quantum computing.
The investments are part of the authority’s strategy to support advanced technologies, facilitate knowledge transfer to Oman and contribute to building a knowledge-based economy while generating long-term returns for its Future Generations Fund.
Through Cambridge Innovation Capital, OIA has gained access to companies commercialising research from the University of Cambridge. Its portfolio includes CMR Surgical, a developer of robotic surgical systems; Pragmatic Semiconductor, which produces flexible, low-cost semiconductor technology for Internet of Things applications; and Riverlane, which develops quantum error-correction software aimed at accelerating the practical deployment of quantum computers.
The portfolio also includes Immutrin, which is developing antibody-based therapies designed to activate the immune system to treat a range of diseases, including cardiomyopathy.
OIA’s investment in Oxford Science Enterprises provides exposure to companies emerging from the University of Oxford’s research ecosystem. These include Quantum Motion, which is developing scalable quantum processors; Refeyn, a specialist in biomolecule analysis technologies that support drug discovery and gene therapy research; Osler Diagnostics, which develops portable diagnostic devices for healthcare providers; and Oxford Quantum Circuits, a developer of quantum computing systems.
Ibrahim bin Saeed Al Isri, Head of Private Markets Investments at OIA, said advanced technologies have become a key driver of economic, scientific and social development.
“By investing in a portfolio of companies developing innovative solutions in healthcare, scientific technologies, quantum computing and other future-focused sectors, the authority has been able to keep pace with global innovation, explore opportunities for knowledge and technology transfer to Oman, and strengthen the exchange of expertise,” he said.
Al Isri added that the investments support Oman’s technology ambitions while targeting sustainable financial returns from rapidly growing sectors with strong long-term potential.
The investments complement OIA’s broader efforts to support innovation and advanced technologies through the Future Generations Fund, which manages the authority’s overseas investments across more than 50 countries and focuses on generating sustainable returns from diversified, long-term investments in global markets.
