18 Dec 2023 Royal Camel Corps added to ICESCO list of intangible cultural heritage By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman, represented by Royal Court Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the Omani National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, succeeded in registering Royal Camel Corps on the list of intangible cultural heritage of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).

This announcement came during Oman’s participation in the 11th meeting of the Heritage Committee of the Islamic World, which commenced on Monday at ICESCO’s headquarters in Rabat, Morocco, and will last for two days.

This international recognition confirms the role of Royal Camel Corps in preserving an intangible cultural heritage through the role it plays in preserving purebred Omani breeds, caring for camels, and showcasing this ancient cultural heritage.

Royal Camel Corps organises and practises activities related to camels by holding the His Majesty the Sultan’s Camel Racing Cup, heritage festivals, participating in various celebrations and presenting camel showmanship skills and musical performances on their backs, in addition to participating in conferences, exhibitions and scientific seminars on camels in and out the sultanate.
