Muscat – The Embassy of the Unites States welcomed its new ambassador Ana Escrogima, who arrived in Muscat on Tuesday night.
“My family and I are delighted to arrive in Oman. Now more than ever Oman’s values of tolerance, dialogue, and mutual respect make it a vital regional partner for the United States,” the new US Ambassador to the sultanate commented soon after her arrival.
“I’m here to listen, and will work with our Omani partners to strengthen our deep and strategically important bilateral relationship and help bring peace to the region,” the ambassador posted on social media.
US President Joe Biden nominated Ambassador Ana in January and the US Senate later confirmed her in late October.
“Honoured to be confirmed by the Senate as the next US Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman. I’m looking forward to joining the President’s team on the ground and supporting Secretary (Antony) Blinken’s diplomatic efforts at such a consequential time for the region,” Ambassador Ana had stated then.
She was serving as the consul general of the US Consulate General in Montreal, Canada.
She previously worked with the State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs and as the deputy chief of mission at the Riyadh-based Yemen Affairs Unit.
Former Rusk Fellow at the Georgetown’s Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, Ambassador Ana has extensive experience abroad and in Washington, DC. She was the State Department’s UAE-based Arabic language spokesperson and served as the Public Affairs Officer in Algeria, where she was responsible for all bilateral, cultural and press engagements.
Ambassador Ana served as a political officer at the US embassies in Iraq and Syria; she was the special assistant to former under secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman, with responsibility for the Middle East issues – most notably the Iran nuclear negotiations.
