Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) is inviting bids for the management and operations of Al Hilla Fort and Al Khandaq Fort in Buraimi.
Companies interested in promoting these historical sites for cultural and heritage tourism are invited to submit their detailed proposals by November 16.
In a statement, MHT outlined specific requirements for the bids. Interested parties should present a clear action plan outlining their approach to managing and operating the two sites.
The submission should include detailed information on organisational structure, shareholders, partners and previously completed projects.
MHT emphasises the promotion of the forts, while thoroughly documenting and presenting the historical significance of the sites and devising robust marketing strategies. Proposals must underscore the architectural uniqueness of the forts and actively involve the local community in cultural and social events.
Historically rich Buraimi is a hub of heritage attractions and is home to multiple castles and forts. The Al Hilla Fort, located in a souq neighbourhood, dates back to the 16th century and covers an area of about 4,200sqm. Nearby, the traditional open souq still buzzes with local vendors selling speciality items.
Al Khandaq Fort in the Hammasa area is surrounded by a 7.5m trench, lending it its name.
MHT restored 310 historical monuments across Oman in 2022 in efforts to enhance the appeal of the sultanate’s rich heritage and provide diverse and enriching experiences to tourists and the local community alike.
