Muscat – On Friday, Oman Across Ages Museum marked the anniversary of the laying of its foundation stone with a special screening of a documentary film titled ‘The Eternal Foundation’. The event took place under the patronage of H H Sayyida Meyyan bint Shihab al Said.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, Al Yaqdhan bin Abdullah al Harthi, Director General of Oman Across Ages Museum, said, “We commemorate a historic moment today. It was on July 14, 2015, when the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said laid the foundation stone of the museum. This institution, a testament to modern architecture in Oman, was born out of that profound act.”

He recounted how the museum’s striking design was the culmination of a global architectural competition, one that was personally endorsed by the late Sultan. The gesture, according to Harthi, underscored Sultan Qaboos’ deep commitment to preserving Omani history, illuminating the accomplishments of Oman’s Blessed Renaissance, and inspiring Omani youth to take pride in their cultural heritage.

“The foundation stone marked the inception of a national endeavour. Immense efforts were poured into this project. Omani youth were given a platform, and our ultimate goal was realised when the museum was officially inaugurated this year under the patronage of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. His Majesty stressed the need to anticipate a future that fulfils every Omani’s dreams,” Harthi said on the occasion.

The documentary offered a glimpse of the stages of construction of the museum. It vividly portrayed the design process of the various halls, which are equipped with state-of-the-art systems and technologies, curation of the knowledge content, historical storytelling, image and film material selection, and display methodology.

Harthi concluded by noting that the museum strives to put the spotlight on the history of Oman through audio-visual storytelling, showcasing the nation’s journey through different eras, culminating in the Blessed Renaissance period. The museum primarily targets the younger generation, encouraging them to appreciate the achievements of their forebears while contemplating their role in shaping Oman’s future.
