‘Satyaprem Ki Katha’ movie review – Loveable loser

6 Jul 2023

Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani are back as each other’s love interests with SatyaPrem Ki Katha. They were earlier paired together in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Directed by Sameer Vidwans, the romantic musical drama also has a social message.

The star cast also includes Supriya Pathak Kapur, Gajraj Rao, Siddharth Randheria, Anooradha Patel, Rajpal Yadav, Nirrmite Saawaant, and Shikha Talsania. The film also marks a collaboration between NGE and Namah Pictures.

The story revolves around Satyaprem, a Gujarati happy go lucky yet good for nothing boy who is eager to marry Katha, daughter of a well-known businessman Harikishen. Sattu’s dreams somehow come true when Katha’s parents arrive at his house to seek his hand in marriage. Sattu’s attempts to get Katha to fall in love with him in order to keep his marriage, and tries to prove to be a worthy husband. However, Katha is not quite convinced and the reason behind Katha’s dismay is what keeps the story going.

While Kiara’s performance is noteworthy Kartik seems to be playing his goofy self too often that his actions and mannerisms are predictable in every film and in this you almost know his character the moment you settle in with popcorn.

While the film attempts to deliver a message, the haphazard treatment leaves the audience confused. There’s nothing new in this film which one has not seen in Bollywood masalas. The song and dance sequences are too loud and the attempt to strike a balance between entertainment and education falls flat as the movie oscillates between comedy and melodrama. But, if you love Kartik (you simply can’t hate him) this is your treat for summer. Worth a watch!
