Oman reaffirms legitimacy of Palestinian cause in Egypt

Muscat – The sultanate affirmed its position in support of the Palestinian cause at a conference that was held by the League of Arab States to support the city of Jerusalem, in Egypt on Sunday.

The conference, which comes in implementation of the recommendations of the recent Algiers Summit, aimed to support the people of Jerusalem and highlight the issue of Palestinians on the world stage.

In a speech, H E Sayyid Badr al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, affirmed that the principle of ‘land for peace’ is adopted by the Arab Peace Initiative to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli and Arab-Israeli conflict in a permanent and just way.

H E Sayyid Badr stressed on the importance of continuing to support sustainable development projects in Jerusalem, and emphasised the legitimacy of its people and their right to inhabit the city which are consistent with the rules of international law, and the principles of justice, right and fairness.

At the end of the speech, he said, “I convey a message to the whole world that we are an Arab nation that continues to extend the hand of peace and seek to consolidate it by establishing an independent and fully sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, so that the peoples of the entire region can live in safety, reassurance, stability and prosperity.”

The conference was attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, King Abdullah II bin al Hussein of Jordan, as well as Secretary General of the Arab League and Co-Chair of the conference Ahmed Aboul Gheit and a number of high-level officials from member states.
