Heavy rain lashes parts of Oman

11 Dec 2022 By

Muscat – Heavy rains lashed several parts of Oman during the early hours of Sunday. The rains will have an impact in Muscat and other cities, according to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Oman Meteorology has announced that the chances of sporadic rain will continue today. A statement issued by CAA said, ‘Oman Meteorology’s aerial pictures indicated continued cloud activity and flow of clouds over parts of the governorates of Musandam, Buraimi, and North Batinah, with sporadic rain and thundershowers in Muscat and light rain in parts of Dakhliyah Governorate.

The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) underlined preventive measures during rains to avoid the dangers of drowning, such as avoiding crossing flooded wadis, standing under trees, and using telephones and electrical appliances, in addition to not leaving the safety of homes unless absolutely necessary.

‘Stay away from electricity poles, avoid touching metal objects, and keep an eye on children and don’t allow them to approach flooded areas,’ a CDAA statement said, also urging people to follow official weather forecasts.

The ROP has also called on motorists not to risk crossing flooded wadis during the rains.
