OCCI board elects Faisal al Rawas as chairman


Muscat – Members of the Board of Directors of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) have elected Faisal al Rawas as its chairman.

The board also elected Rashid bin Amer al Muslehi as first vice-chairman and Hamoud bin Salem al Saadi as second vice-chairman.

Dr Saleh bin Said Masan, Undersecretary for Commerce and Industry in the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and Chairman of OCCI’s Election Committee, announced the results on Monday. The council members of the board were elected by secret ballot.

The board also elected Anwar Hamad bin Saeed al Sanani and Naif bin Hamid Fadel as members of the Executive Committee, Saud bin Ahmed Abdul Karim al Nahari, Zahir bin Muhammad al Kaabi and Saeed bin Ali al Abri as members of the Investment Committee, and Muhammad bin Nasser bin Muhammad al Maskari, Hussein bin Abdul-Hussein al Lawati and Mustafa Ahmed Salman as members of the Audit Committee.

While congratulating the council members of the board, Masan emphasised the responsibility entrusted to them to contribute to the realisation of Oman Vision 2040. Membership of the new board will last till 2026.

Following the announcement, Rawas said, “The board of OCCI will ensure the principles of governance in all its branches by strengthening partnership between public and private sectors.

“The council will also strengthen communication with business owners and work on decentralisation of all its branches in the governorates in implementation of the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.”

Elections to the board of OCCI concluded last week with a huge voter turnout witnessed at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat and the chamber’s branches across governorates.

Elections were conducted to elect 21 board members from 122 contestants for a period of four years (2022-2026).
