Muscat – A floral carpet design competition will be held at Golden Oasis Hotel on August 26 on the occasion of Onam, the harvest festival celebrated in the Indian state of Kerala.
This is the first time such a competition is being planned, organised by Indian Media Forum (IMF) with support from Modern Exchange. IMF is a platform for Indian journalists based in Oman that was formed ten years ago.
The competition was announced at a press conference held at Ananthapuri Restaurant on Tuesday.
“The contest is open to all nationalities and age groups. Individuals as well as teams of maximum five members can take part. The first 25 contestants who register will compete in the finals on August 26,” Jayakumar Vallickavu, general secretary of IMF, said addressing the press conference.
A team of judges will evaluate the floral carpet creations based on design, style and theme to select three winners and two consolation prize winners.
The competition will be held from 8am to 11am and winners announced the same day. Registration started on Tuesday and will end on August 23.
Lijo John, general manager of Modern Exchange, said, “We are happy to be associated with IMF for the first of its kind floral carpet competition. As part of our CSR activities, Modern Exchange has been actively engaged in several such events with the aim of giving back to the people of Oman, including free insurance.”
Also present at the press conference were Mohammed Iqbal and Abbad Cheruppa, co-ordinator and treasurer of IMF, respectively.
