Muscat – Registration for the international Junior Academy programme will end on July 7. The programme targets a hundred male and female students from all over Oman aged 13-17 years who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Junior Academy is a programme of the Centre of Excellence for Advanced Telecommunications Technology and IoT at Innovation Park Muscat of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
The students will be divided into groups to solve a ‘renewable energy in Oman challenge’ or other STEM challenges they wish to participate in.
Participating students will be mentored 3-4 hours per week during the 60-day innovation challenge programme. The programme is implemented by the Centre of Excellence in a strategic partnership between Ericsson, the Ministry of Finance and Omantel, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and New York Academy of Sciences.
Interested applicants can register through https://www.nyas. org/programs/global-stem-alliance/the-junior-academy/?tab =for%20students
Applicants should be proficient in English, as the programme content is only available in English. When registering, applicants should fill ‘ERICSSON’ in the Referral Code field. The application process includes providing background information and responding to some questions.
The New York Academy of Sciences will then contact the applicants via email to complete the registration and selection process. Chosen participants will receive final acceptance emails in September.
Junior Academy aims to provide young students with the opportunity to learn how to research and develop innovation skills and compete to find solutions to global societal challenges in the field of technology and science.
