Muscat – The Ministry of Energy and Minerals, in cooperation with the Institute for Oil and Gas (instOG), has launched a two-year training programme in mining.

The programme recently launched under the patronage of H E Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, in the presence of c-suite executives of companies engaged in the sector and the director general of instOG.

According to a ministry official, the programme targets 60 mining employees in government institutions and mining companies in the sultanate. “It will consist of nine training programmes, each of 40 hours duration spread over five days.”

The programme aims to provide participants with knowledge of the basics of the mining industry, focusing on key mining concepts and terms, geological modelling and design, knowledge about mining economics, conducting feasibility studies in mining, identifying health and safety aspects in mining, understanding methods of extraction, and processing of extracted materials.

The ministry official added that during the training programme, participants will carry out field visits to the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the Environment Authority, Sultan Qaboos University, German University of Technology in Oman, Minerals Development Oman, Kunooz Oman Holding Company, and the Saudi Mining Polytechnic.
