Muscat– Omani novelist and writer Mohammed bin Eid Al Araimi died on Thursday at the age of 72, following a decades-long literary and cultural career that included novels, short stories and translations.

Born in 1954 in Wadi Al Mar in Sur, South Sharqiyah Governorate, Al Araimi earned a bachelor’s degree in science, specialising in industrial engineering, from the United States in 1981.

He produced a number of literary works, including Hazz Al Qaid, Between the Desert and the Water, The Taste of Patience, A Testimony from a Time of War and Rainbow.

Al Araimi also translated George Orwell’s Animal Farm into Arabic, adding literary translation to his work as a novelist and writer.

His contributions to Omani literature and his creative experience were recognised in 2023, when he received an award from the Omani Society for Writers and Literati. Al Araimi’s literary career spanned decades and established a body of work across fiction, storytelling and translation, making him a recognised figure in Oman’s cultural and literary landscape
