Muscat – The Ministry of Education (MoE) signed an agreement with the Al Batinah Energy Company and Al Suwadi Energy Company on Monday, to finance the peaceful V teaching programme in the sultanate’s schools.
The signing ceremony was attended by H E Prof Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, Undersecretary for Education in MoE, Mohammed bin Ali al Rawahi, CEO of Al Batinah Energy Company, and Abdullah bin Muhammad al Rawahi, CEO of Al Suwadi Energy. The signing took place at the ministry’s headquarters.
H E Prof Ambusaidi, said, “This agreement will enhance the presence of these activities (nuclear energy in the peaceful aspects) in all educational levels to enlighten students about the importance of the role of nuclear energy in various peaceful fields, whether in the field of electricity generation or its medical aspect.”
Rawahi, said, “The ongoing partnership between the Ministry of Education and both Al Batinah Energy and Al Suwadi Energy Company stems from the two companies’ belief in the importance of education, especially in the field of modern technologies, innovation and renewable energy, and that nuclear energy has positive aspects that serve in the renaissance of humanity and will facilitate many aspects of their lives such as in the fields of medicine, industry, agriculture, and food. This programme will have a great resonance in the hearts of our students, raise their level of awareness about this science and change the negative view that revolves around it, and we hope to have many nuclear scientists among our children in the future.”
The programme comes in order to develop the knowledge and skills aspect of students, teachers, and educational
supervisors, in the field of nuclear science and technology, which the Ministry of Education seeks to achieve, through the cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the regional project concerned with teaching nuclear science and technology to school students and presenting it in an appropriate way through innovative atypical training of teachers, curriculum developers and supervisors.
The programme includes national workshops on ‘Innovative Methods for Teaching Peaceful Nuclear Science and Technology to School Students’ in cooperation with IAEA and the Office of Peaceful Nuclear Technology at the Foreign Ministry.
The workshop is one of the national programmes within the regional project RAS0079 in teaching peaceful nuclear science and technology to students in secondary schools and teacher training, which is adopted by IAEA and in which a number of member states of the agency, including the sultanate, participate in it, in addition to the national workshop for teaching nuclear sciences.
The programme contains a set of different activities, including a variety of competitions and events for students, teachers, as well as the local community, with the aim of raising the level of awareness and knowledge of nuclear sciences among the various segments of society.
