Muscat – H E Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal bin Said al Busaidi, Minister of Interior, and Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef al Saud, Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, visited the Empty Quarter border post linking the two countries on Monday.
Lt Gen Hassan bin Mohsin al Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, H E Eng Said bin Hamoud bin Said al Ma’awali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the ambassadors of the two countries, and a number of officials from the Omani and Saudi sides participated in the tour of the site.
The visit aims to deepen the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation between Oman and Saudi Arabia that has been established by the leaderships of the two countries.
The two ministers were briefed on the progress of work and services provided by the border post and the flow of traffic between the two sides.
The two ministers also reviewed the bilateral relations between Oman and Saudi Arabia, and exchanged views on a number of areas of cooperation, in addition to matters of common interest.
Oman and Saudi Arabia inaugurated the Rub al Khali (Empty Quarter) road and two border posts connecting the two countries on December 7, 2021.
The road passes through Rub al Khali and the eastern province of Ihsa in Saudi Arabia. The section of the road in Oman is around 160km long, while around 580km of it is in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi section links the Khorais-Bathaa road to the Omani border, via Shayba and Umm Zamoul.
