Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Supreme Commander, presided over a military parade staged at the military parade ground of Al Murtafaa Camp on the occasion of the 51st National Day on Thursday.
Units representing the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO), Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), Royal Guard of Oman (RGO), Sultan’s Special Force (SSF), Royal Oman Police (ROP), Royal Court Affairs (RCA) and a joint military band took part in the parade.
As His Majesty the Sultan, Supreme Commander, arrived at the parade ground, Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Nu’amani, Minister of Royal Office, and Vice Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis al Ra’eesi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) were honoured to receive His Majesty.
Upon His Majesty the Sultan’s ascension to the Royal Box, the parade columns gave the military salute and the Royal Anthem was played by the joint military band while the artillery unit fired a 21-gun salute.
Thereafter, the commander of the parade column approached the Royal Box requesting permission from His Majesty the Sultan to start the military parade. The parade began as the joint military band, representing the corps of RAO, RAFO, RNO, RGO, ROP, Royal Cavalry and the Royal Camel Corps marched before the Royal Box.
Afterwards, columns of the Protocols Guard, represented by RAO, RAFO, RNO, RGO, SSF and ROP, paraded accompanied by musical pieces of the joint military band, passing before the Royal Box and saluting His Majesty the Sultan.
After that, the joint military parade band performed various musical pieces and columns of Protocols Guard chanted the military anthem ‘Fal Taslami Oman’ (Oman, Live in Peace).
The Protocols Guard chanted a call of loyalty and allegiance and proclaimed a long life for His Majesty the Sultan thrice.
The Royal Anthem was played and the columns of the Protocols Guard saluted His Majesty the Sultan, signalling the conclusion of the military parade.
On the occasion, His Majesty the Sultan accepted a gift from the armed forces, which was presented by Sayyid Shihab, following which His Majesty the Sultan left the parade ground.
During the parade, His Majesty the Sultan was accompanied by, among others, members of the Royal Family, chairmen of State Council and Shura Council, ministers, undersecretaries, advisers, commanders of SAF and other military and security departments, and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the sultanate.
