Omani artist paints HM’s portrait on Sur port

To express his love for His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Abdullah al Sayeagh, an Omani artist from Sur, has painted a portrait of His Majesty the Sultan on Sur port, in South Sharqiyah.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Sayeagh, said, “I have been making graffiti since childhood. Now, I painted a portrait of His Majesty Sultan Haitham on the wall of Sur port.  I started work on this portrait on May 13 and it took me ten days to complete it.”

Sayeagh said he has been painting for the past 20 years and always wanted to show his unconditional love for his country. He has painted a lot of images in various parts of Sur to promote tourist sites and attract tourists.

“I wanted to show His Majesty the Sultan that we are with him in all his endeavours.  This portrait is 3.5m high and 11m wide,” he said, adding, “It was not an easy task in the month of Ramadan when I worked on this portrait for several hours a day, also with a lack of raw materials for colours. But I didn’t give up. I will continue to promote my country in all its glory.”

He further said, “I inherited from my grandparents the profession of making Omani daggers and that art helped me a lot in my painting. I hope to provide courses to support  artists in Sur and will continue to painted tourist sites to support Omani tourism.”
