The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) has launched a treatment campaign for livestock in Muscat. It’s part of a campaign that started in mid-February and will last for seven months.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Eng Ruqayya bint Khalfan Ali al Wahabi, head of the Veterinary Clinic in Quriyat, said, “The campaign started in Faiq area in the wilayat of Quriyat. The campaign aims to provide care and treatment for sheep and provide advice and guidance to livestock breeders in the region.” 

The campaign is part of the ministry’s programme called ‘Preventive and Awareness Therapy’. The programme aims to provide veterinary services and treatment services for animal in a large number of farms. The officials also communicate with breeders in areas to offer veterinary advice.

A large number of citizens in Faiq breed sheep and goats. The veterinary team has already vaccinated over 500 livestock during the campaign, she said.

“We also delivered a lecture to guide the livestock breeders on the correct methods of nutrition, disease prevention, importance of animal vaccination and treatment. “Providing veterinary services for livestock has an essential importance in preserving animal health, increasing production, preventing the spread of epidemic diseases, and preserving human health from common diseases spread through animals.”

The ministry also vaccinated 1,000 sheep in Wadi al Sareen, in the wilayat of Amerat, 2,525 livestock including sheep and goats in Al Jafnayn in the wilayat of Seeb.

MoAF has taken effective measures to treat animals in different parts of the sultanate. It confirmed that 2.2mn animals were treated in the sultanate in 2018, an increase of 4.8 per cent compared to 2017.
