The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) has dissolved the Oman Road Safety Association and Oman Society of Contractors.
H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Said bin Saif al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, issued two Ministerial Decisions (No 13/ 2020 and No 12 / 2020) to dissolve the Oman Road Safety Association and Oman Society of Contractors.
The decision confirmed that the two associations were dissolved because they were unable to achieve their goals for which they were established. The decision added that the two associations’ employees should not manage any of the associations’ assets, from funds or documents, and they should be handed over to the competent authority.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Shahswar al Balushi, CEO of the now-dissolved Oman Society of Contractors, said, “The decision will have a negative impact on the construction sector in the sultanate. We were surprised by this decision, and we do not know the basis for taking the decision.”
He added, “We cooperated with many ministries such as the Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Finance to find a solution to the challenges facing the construction sector over the past five years. We also implemented many programmes that serve Tanfeedh’s goals.”
Ali al Barwani, former CEO of the Oman Road Safety Association, said, “The Oman Road Safety Association presented many road safety programmes and spread awareness among different groups of society since its establishment in 2010. After this decision, I hope there will be a bigger entity to highlight traffic safety issues.”
