67,711 livestock vaccinated in Nizwa

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) vaccinated 67,711 livestock in the wilayat of Nizwa last year. MoAF has taken effective measures to treat animals in different parts of Oman.  

The ministry said, ‘The programme lasted 81 days. It started on September 2 and ended on December 31, 2019.’ 

The immunisation programme included administration of two doses. The first dose targeted goats and sheep and the second dose was for cows. As many as 585 livestock owners in various villages of the wilayat of Nizwa benefitted from this immunisation programme. 

According to MoAF statistics, 2.2mn animals were treated in the sultanate in 2018, an increase of 4.8 per cent compared to 2017.  

The ministry confirmed that 2.1mn animals were treated in the sultanate in 2017, a decrease of 9.6 per cent compared to 2016. 

As per the Agricultural Census 2018, the livestock population of Oman is above 3.5mn, of which 397,000 are cows, 2,302,000 goats, 605,000 sheep and 268,000 camels.
