: To provide better services to visitors and tourists, the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) has begun developing Nizwa Souq in Dakhliyah governorate. Speaking to Muscat Daily, an official from MRMWR said that the maintenance work of the souq includes building new toilets, replacing central air conditioners, paving the sale area and corridors. “Some of the other refurbishment work will include replacement of lighting poles.”
The work will also include painting the entire souq building and setting up kiosks to sell grilled food items and juices, the official said. “The kiosks will be established keeping in mind the health and safety specifications stipulated by the ministry. In addition the souq will also see installation of adequate trash bins and refurbishing the main gates.”
Redeveloping Ibri
MRMWR is also planning to establish more public facilities in the wilayat of Ibri in Dhahirah governorate. “The ministry will establish a slaughterhouse and a children’s park in Ibri. For this, the ministry has called for investments. A number entertainment areas, cafés and a slaughterhouse will also be set up,” said the official, adding that five sites are being offered for the purpose.
Guidelines for the projects can be sought from the Directorate General of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources in Dhahirah.
The ministry is also looking to set up a slaughterhouse on an area of 100,000sq m, a children’s park, a place to sell green fodder and a café at Hamra al Droua Park.
