Students join MECA’s mangrove seedling planting campaign

22 Dec 2019

Students of Al Kahil School for Basic Education recently joined a campaign organised by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) to plant 700 mangrove seedlings in the wilayat of Al Jaser in Al Wusta governorate.

The ministry has launched the mangrove plantation campaign in several areas of the governorate including Khor Gawi.

The Department of Environmental Affairs in Al Wusta is conducting several environmental awareness campaigns among members of the community on the importance of mangrove trees and their benefits to humans.

The ministry has already planted about 680,000 saplings in 30 khors in various coastal areas of the sultanate. The ministry also opened four nurseries to produce mangrove seedlings. Two of them are in Qurum Nature Reserve in Muscat, while others are in Khor Batah in Sur in South Batinah and in Qurm Grand Reserve in Salalah in Dhofar governorate.
