Muscat – Oman Charitable Organization (OCO) has announced establishment of the Oman Red Crescent Society, marking a significant step towards building a globally recognised Omani humanitarian entity.
The announcement was made on Monday during a ceremony honouring corporate social responsibility (CSR) partners under the theme ‘Together We Make an Impact’.
OCO said the society will focus on delivering medical and humanitarian services, promoting a culture of volunteerism within and beyond Oman, and providing rapid humanitarian assistance during disasters and crises.
Badr bin Mohammed Al Zaabi, Acting CEO of OCO, commended the role of companies and institutions in supporting the organisation’s programmes, noting that their contributions have strengthened outcomes for beneficiaries across multiple sectors.

He said sustained CSR support has enabled the organisation to expand housing initiatives, including construction and renovation of homes for low-income families, enhance healthcare assistance through treatment support and procurement of medical equipment, and broaden educational programmes to help students continue their studies.
Al Zaabi added that OCO has also scaled up community development initiatives, including cash assistance, Ramadan iftar programmes and emergency humanitarian interventions.
He noted that OCO is the sultanate’s authorised body for managing aid and responding to disasters and crises both locally and internationally.
The organisation’s funding is derived from individual donations, investment returns, grants and aid, as well as corporate contributions and government support.
Al Zaabi added that OCO operates under a robust governance framework, including internal and external audits and oversight by the State Audit Institution, ensuring transparency and efficiency in delivering its humanitarian programmes.
