Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has issued royal directives to rename Oman Cultural Complex as the Sayyid Tarik bin Taimur Cultural Complex. The move, announced on November 20, 2025, is a gesture of appreciation to immortalise the legacy of the late Sayyid Tarik bin Taimur and his prominent role in the Sultanate’s journey toward prosperity and the building of modern Oman.
His Majesty’s decision reflects an acknowledgement of Sayyid Tarik’s achievements and the cultural and civilisational significance of his name, aligning with the complex’s ambition to become a local and international beacon of culture.
Sayyid Tarik bin Taimur served as Oman’s first Prime Minister at the outset of the Blessed Renaissance era. Educated in Turkey and Germany, and having received military training in India, he also held the post of Mayor of Muscat and Mutrah in the 1940s. Internationally, he was instrumental in securing the Sultanate’s membership in the United Nations, leading the Omani delegation in 1971 and delivering the speech that firmly established Oman’s presence on the global stage.
