Muscat – Oman announced the launch of its National Climate Platform at the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil on Sunday, positioning it as a key strategic tool for delivering national priorities, attracting climate finance and strengthening international cooperation.
Speaking at the event titled ‘Delivering climate solutions through country platforms’, Dr Thuraya bint Saeed al Sariri, Assistant Director-General of Conservation at Environment Authority (EA), said the platform is being developed as an integrated national system serving as a central hub for coordination and investment.
It will bring together national priorities, climate finance and global partnerships with the aim of transforming strategies into practical, high-impact programmes and supporting the transition towards a low-carbon, climate-resilient future.
She informed that the platform is built on three core principles – national ownership, partnership and transparency. Advanced digital tools will be deployed to enhance transparency, track investments, measure progress and build confidence among domestic and international partners. “This reflects Oman’s readiness to deliver impactful results with national ownership and global relevance,” she added.
EA is leading the initiative in partnership with all relevant national entities, while being open to international organisations, the private sector and regional partners.
The platform will focus on priority sectors for mitigation and adaptation in line with Oman Vision 2040 and the country’s Net Zero Strategy 2050. These include clean energy, green hydrogen, water, agriculture, climate resilience, waste management and the circular economy, as well as private-sector climate finance.
EA affirmed that the National Climate Platform will serve as a primary mechanism for managing and coordinating all funding requests submitted to international climate finance institutions, in accordance with national priorities set in partnership with stakeholders across the sultanate.
