Muscat – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Arab Music Academy of the Arab League to enhance and develop cultural cooperation in the fields of music, song and folk arts.

The MoU was signed by H E Said bin Sultan al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Culture, and Dr Kifah Fakhouri, Secretary-General of the academy.

The agreement outlines cooperation in hosting music festivals and events, organising artistic forums and programmes, establishing musical ensembles and music libraries, and exchanging expertise and artists. It includes collaborations in the exchange of artistic, scientific, and audio and visual materials aimed at enriching the Arab cultural landscape and supporting the growth of creative industries.

The MoU further encourages joint artistic productions between Oman and other Arab nations, making use of Omani folk arts as musical and vocal works suitable for performance and international showcasing.

Dr Inas Abdel Dayem, President of the Arab Music Academy, described the partnership as a model of constructive collaboration that benefits both sides and supports the cause of Arab music and its cultural mission.
“This cooperation contributes to preserving the rich and diverse Arab musical heritage, ensuring its continuity in the collective memory of future generations, and inspiring new creative works drawn from this authentic tradition,” she said.

Inas added that ongoing collaboration between the academy and the sultanate has already yielded notable achievements.
