CPA cautions against online purchase of inflatable neck rings for children

10 Nov 2025 Inflatable Neck Ring Drowning Warning By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has issued a serious safety warning regarding the use of inflatable neck rings designed to help children float, as authorities highlight a significant drowning risk.

This urgent safety alert highlights a severe drowning risk associated with the popular aquatic accessory due to two critical failures , firstly the product poses a danger because a child’s head may slip entirely through the neck opening during use and second the flotation aid could experience insufficient air supply potentially through deflation which would cause the child to lose support unexpectedly.

The warning explicitly advises all consumers to exercise extreme caution when purchasing these specific products particularly through electronic outlets or from outside the Sultanate.

Authorities stressed this is a serious safety measure to protect families from dangerous non compliant goods that may enter the local market parents and caregivers who currently use this type of flotation device are strongly urged to immediately discontinue its use given the life-threatening nature of the reported hazards.
