Muscat – North Batinah is gearing up to host the third edition of the Batinah International Film Festival, scheduled to take place from October 27 to 30.
Organised by Oman Film Society (OFS) in collaboration with North Batinah Governor’s Office, the event promises to be a landmark cultural gathering showcasing 309 films from 33 countries. The scale and diversity of this edition further consolidate Oman’s position as a regional film industry hub.
Speaking to Muscat Daily, Mohammed al Ajmi, Chairman of OFS, said, “This year, we are presenting 309 international and local films, including 218 feature films and 91 documentaries. Among these are 28 Omani films – 15 features and 13 documentaries – demonstrating the growth of Oman’s cinema movement and the rising prominence of our national talent.”
The festival will also break new ground with a special category dedicated to films created using artificial intelligence, featuring 18 titles, eight of which have been created by Omani filmmakers. Another highlight is the participation of 15 films produced by national institutions, including 13 by government bodies and two from private sector entities. “This strong participation reflects the pivotal role of local institutions in nurturing filmmakers and supporting their creative endeavours,” Ajmi added.
Beyond film screenings, the festival aims to serve as a platform for dialogue, exchange and collaboration among filmmakers from across the globe. It also has a strategic purpose through the ‘Make Your Film in Oman’ initiative, which is designed to position the sultanate as an ideal filming destination. Organisers hope the event will not only celebrate cinematic creativity but also promote Oman’s landscapes and culture to attract international production houses.
“With its impressive lineup and growing international recognition, Batinah International Film Festival is set to become a beacon for filmmakers and audiences alike, showcasing both global cinema and Oman’s own burgeoning film industry,” Ajmi said.
