Muscat – Muscat Municipality has launched a three-week field survey to assess public parking use at key sites across the capital as part of its ongoing Muscat Area Traffic Study 2025.
The survey, which began on September 14, aims to collect accurate data on parking demand and occupancy to support sustainable traffic-management solutions in the governorate.
Municipal officials said field surveyors will collect data over the coming days at Seeb Souq, Al Barakat Street, Al Khoud Souq, Qurum Beach, Khuwair Commercial Area, Qurum Commercial Area and Al Maha Street.
The data collection focuses on parking occupancy patterns, turnover and peak-period demand.
The survey is part of wider efforts to improve traffic flow and public mobility in Muscat. By studying parking behaviour at peak and off-peak times, planners hope to identify congestion hotspots and test measures such as enhanced parking regulation, dynamic pricing pilots and improved multimodal connectivity.
In April 2025, the municipality announced the third edition of the Muscat Area Traffic Study, awarded to international consulting firm Dar al Handasah. The 433-day study will provide a comprehensive assessment of Muscat’s transport system, including traffic conditions, urban expansion, economic corridors and congestion points. Its findings will be integrated into short-, medium- and long-term plans for the city.
Officials said results from the parking survey and the broader traffic study will guide policy, infrastructure investments and pilot projects aimed at delivering safer, smoother and more sustainable travel across the capital.
