Muscat – Environment Authority (EA) has concluded an awareness competition it conducted throughout August on X, aimed at enhancing understanding of environmental issues and climate change among children and youth.

According to an EA official, the contest drew 144 entries, divided between a children’s drawing competition and a poster designing competition for youth.

The winners included Sultan bin Ahmed al Lamki, who took first place in the children’s drawing category, and Salem bin Omar al Esayi, who won first place in poster designing. In addition, 14 consolation prizes were awarded to recognise outstanding contributions and encourage participants to continue developing their talents.

The official noted that the response of participants reflected rising awareness among the younger generation on the importance of protecting the environment and their eagerness to express their ideas creatively.

He added that the initiative was part of the authority’s wider efforts to instil values of conservation, encourage positive environmental behaviour and highlight the importance of safeguarding the ozone layer.

The official further explained that EA is prioritising innovative outreach through digital platforms and social media, given the ability of these to reach wider audiences and enhance community involvement in national environmental initiatives.

“Such programmes help build a culture of sustainability, and young people are a cornerstone of Oman’s future,” he stressed, adding that EA will continue to conduct interactive campaigns to engage all segments of society in protecting the country’s environment and natural resources.
