Mudhabi – The Department of Blood Banks Services (DBBS) will hold the first women’s blood donation campaign in Mudhaibi, North Sharqiyah on Wednesday.

Open exclusively to women, the campaign will be held from 9am to 5pm in cooperation with Samad Charity Team, Ibra Reference Hospital Blood Bank and Directorate General of Health Services in North Sharqiyah. It will also be supported by the Ministry of Health, Mudhaibi Health City and other community partners.

Held under the slogan ‘Your blood is life, save others with it’, the initiative seeks to highlight the role of women in strengthening community health. So far, 202 donors have registered. DBBS described the turnout as a reflection of ‘growing awareness of the importance of blood donation’ and reminded participants to bring original ID cards.

The campaign comes amid rising demand for blood across the sultanate. Central Blood Bank in Bausher recorded a 4% increase in donations in 2024, collecting 43,122 units of blood and 2,636 units of blood components. In total, 381 blood donation campaigns were held last year.

Donations have steadily grown in recent years: 28,613 units in 2020, 32,741 in 2021, 39,712 in 2022, 41,139 in 2023, and 43,122 in 2024.

A Central Blood Bank representative emphasised the importance of regular donations to meet healthcare needs. The centre is open from Saturday to Thursday, 8am to 8pm, and on Fridays from 8am to 2pm.

DBBS has urged citizens and residents to donate every three months to support this life-saving cause.
