Salalah – Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has announced a special event from November 28 to December 6 to mark the frankincense season in Dhofar.

The event will be held at the Unesco World Heritage Site of Land of Frankincense, which includes Al Baleed Archaeological Park, Samharam Archaeological Park, Wubar Archaeological Site and Wadi Doka Nature Reserve, the ministry has stated.

The event’s programme will include a presentation on how frankincense products and extracts were manufactured in the ancient times, besides throwing light on their exports by caravans through Dhofar.

According to MHT, the event will promote the historical features of the sites in the Land of Frankincense and their role in facilitating cultural and commercial exchange with various civilisations of the world, besides highlighting the importance of the Land of Frankincense in attracting tourists from around the world.

According to ministry statistics for 2023, Al Baleed Archaeological Park and the Land of Frankincense Museum received 61,974 visitors, while the number of visitors to Samharam Archaeological Park was 32,694. Wubar Archaeological Site in Thumrait received 12,600 visitors.
