Muscat – The Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) is all set to host the prestigious West Asian Badminton Junior Championship which will start on Monday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The event, which runs until Saturday, will see 60 players from across West Asia including Jordan, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Syria, besides the hosts competing in a range of singles and doubles events.
The tournament, organised by the ORSC in collaboration with the West Asian Badminton Federation, is under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. Players will compete in both Under-15 and Under-17 age categories in boys and girls singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
The championship’s organising team is working tirelessly to ensure the event’s smooth execution. Nasar al Sulaimani, Event Director, confirmed that all subcommittees are well-prepared. “We have formed multiple subcommittees focused on coordination, technical aspects, media, finance, marketing, and event management. The teams have worked diligently to ensure everything is in place for this landmark event,” he said.
Al Sulaimani expressed his gratitude for the support received from key partners, including the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, Royal Oman Police, Ministry of Information, Oman Airports and private sector sponsors.
Oman’s national teams, comprising nine players (eight males and one female), continue their intensive training under coach Hamad al Maqbali. Competing in both singles and doubles categories, the players are focused on securing positive outcomes in the Under-15 and Under-17 events.
