New York, US – Foreign Minister, H E Sayyid Badr Hamad al Busaidi, held a series of high-level meetings on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where discussions focused on fostering peace, cooperation, and economic development.

In his meeting with Dr Rashad al Alimi, Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Sayyid Badr reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to supporting efforts to achieve security and stability in Yemen. Both leaders emphasised the importance of a political solution that safeguards Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. They expressed hope that ongoing efforts would pave the way for lasting peace.

Sayyid Badr also met with Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, where they reviewed the bilateral relations between Oman and Algeria. The ministers stressed the need to activate agreements made under the Omani-Algerian Joint Committee and to boost cooperation in key sectors. They also discussed regional and international issues, pledging to continue their coordination in supporting Arab and Islamic causes and backing the United Nations’ role in promoting peace and security.

In discussions with Espen Barth Eide, Norway’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr explored avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in renewable energy, environmental protection, and sustainable development. Both ministers affirmed their commitment to continuing close coordination on global issues, including food, medicine, and water security.

The importance of multilateral dialogue was a central theme, with both sides agreeing on the need for international cooperation to address regional and global conflicts peacefully, upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Sayyid Badr also met Dr Mohamed Osman Maliki, Singapore’s Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Education. The ministers highlighted the progress made following His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s historic visit to Singapore last year. They discussed enhancing cooperation in sectors such as digital economy, innovation, energy, and education, while stressing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving disputes.

In another meeting, Sayyid Badr held talks with Battsetseg Batmunkh, Foreign Minister of Mongolia. Both leaders explored opportunities for trade, investment, and tourism between their countries, agreeing to deepen their cooperation in these fields. They also exchanged views on key global issues within the framework of the UN General Assembly.

These meetings underscored Oman’s active role in international diplomacy, as it continues to engage with diverse nations on issues ranging from peacebuilding to economic development, reaffirming its commitment to global cooperation.
