Salalah – The Regional Forum of National Human Rights Institutions held in Salalah has concluded with key recommendations aimed at strengthening cooperation and enhancing human rights practices across the region.

The two-day forum, which concluded on Thursday at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex, focused on improving collaboration among national human rights institutions and involving civil society organisations, particularly those representing vulnerable groups, in all stages of planning and implementation related to national visions.

The two-day forum underscored the importance of capacity building and data analysis to effectively monitor and evaluate the implementation of national human rights strategies. Participants discussed various topics, including the integration of human rights into Oman Vision 2040, sustainable development goals, and the need for transparency and follow-up in implementing national visions.

More than 170 participants from over 50 institutions and organisations, including representatives from the United Nations, international and regional organisations, stakeholders, national human rights institutions, government agencies, and civil society organisations, attended the forum.

The forum also emphasised the necessity of creating effective communication channels between national human rights committees and those responsible for implementing national visions. It aimed to support and assist the implementation of these visions in compliance with the Paris Principles, providing necessary indicators, data, and statistics to measure progress in human rights-related areas.

The forum’s recommendations are expected to pave the way for improved human rights practices and greater collaboration between national and international entities, ultimately contributing to the advancement of human rights and sustainable development in the region.
