Muscat – The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced the commencement of the General Education Diploma (GED) first semester examinations for the academic year 2023-24, from Tuesday.

Approximately 57,093 students are set to appear for the exams, the ministry disclosed.

The ministry completed the process for the examination, forming several committees to ensure smooth operations.

The Preparation Committee, established at the ministry level and represented by the Centre for Educational Measurement and Evaluation, is spearheading the entire process for the evaluation of the GED students.

At the governorate level, departments of educational measurement and evaluation formed similar committees, focusing on managing and overseeing the exams in their respective areas.

Additionally, dedicated committees for exam management, correction, and marking have been established. These include marking centres in educational directorates within the governorates to be managed by around 800 nominated graders.

Over 6,000 teachers have been assigned to supervise the examinees across 361 examination centres, strategically distributed maintaining student density of each governorate.

The evaluation of papers will begin on Wednesday and conclude on February 8. “This process involves meticulous planning and execution so as to ensure fairness and accuracy in evaluating student performance,” an official said.

To facilitate an optimal examination environment, the ministry, through the Educational Directorates in the governorates, has set up exam centres adequately to offer a conducive atmosphere to students.

“The focus is on enabling examinees to take their tests in a comfortable and tranquil setting,” the official added.

The ministry encourages students to utilise their time effectively for study and revision and to remain focused during exams.

Key instructions for students include arriving early at examination centres, bringing necessary tools like pens, erasers, and approved calculators, and ensuring proper identity verification. Students must also adhere to the rules and guidelines within the exam centres and avoid bringing prohibited items.

In case of any violations during the exams, the ministry has outlined strict penalties as per Article 37 of Ministerial Resolution (588/2015).
