National Museum exhibits perfume bottles presented by Sultan Qaboos to guests

11 Feb 2023

Muscat – Highlighting the historical value of the frankincense tree, the National Museum is displaying a collection of perfume bottles dating back to 1983 made of crystal, gold (24 karat) and silver at its Land of Frankincense Gallery. The collection is the first aromatic innovation of Amouage Perfumes.

The perfumes were presented by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said to his guests. The three fragrant flasks represent three great natural treasures of Oman – frankincense, rose and amber. Frankincense was and still is a bridge of communication and highly regarded globally.

One of the perfume bottle’s shape was inspired by the Omani dagger. Another bottle is in the shape of a cube, plated with gold and engraved with delicate decorations, while a bottle cap design was inspired by a mosque dome.

The museum is also exhibiting a perfume bottle shaped like a Lily of the Valley from 1931, made of crystal and designed by Rene Lalique in Paris. The bottles will be on display at the museum for six months.
