Equestrian skills take centre stage in Buraimi

Buraimi – Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said presided over the annual horse race of Royal Cavalry in Buraimi on Thursday.

The race was organised by Royal Court Affairs and represented by Royal Cavalry.

Ridden by cavalryman Amer Ali al Rasbi, a horse named RBBlast Off, owned by Sayyid Saud Harib al Said, clinched the His Majesty the Sultan’s Cup in the fifth round, 2,000m race titled Hisn al Khandaq Race for Arabian thoroughbreds.

The first round – Hisn Marjab Race – a 1,200m race for Arabian purebreds, dedicated to female riders, was won by Al Asbaq ridden by Ramla Khalil al Zadjali.

The 1,200m second round race for Arabian purebreds – Hisn al Aadhid Race – saw RB Kinsman take the first place. Owned by Sayyid Saud Harib al Said, the horse was ridden by cavalryman Amer Ali al Rasbi.

The 1,600m third round race, titled Hisn al Hilla, was won by Futain with Mike Y Forest astride.
The 1,600m fourth round for Arabian thoroughbreds – Hisn Bait Annad Race – was won by Jathjat, owned by Abdullah Ali al Maamari, ridden by cavalryman Qais Saif al Busaidi.

Entertainment and stunts shows were performed between the race rounds, including display of equestrian skills, Aiyala Ballads, archery, tent pegging, music bands, horse and camel pageants, and poetry recitation.

At the conclusion of the event, Sayyid Theyazin handed over cups and trophies to winners of the five rounds of the race. He also accepted a commemorative gift from the Royal Cavalry.

Al Bashayer festival for camel racing from Feb 13

Muscat – The sixth edition of Al Bashayer Annual Festival for Arabian Camel Racing will be held from February 13 to 18 at Al Bashayer Camel Racing Field in the wilayat of Adam, Dakhliyah.

The festival will see participation of camel owners from Oman and Arab and GCC countries.

According to Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, the Al Bashayer festival is among the most prominent sporting, social, cultural and tourism events in the sultanate and the GCC countries. “The Al Bashayer Camel Racing Field is a place to witness sporting achievements.”

He added that the festival provides an opportunity to showcase culture and enhance social harmony through several events accompanying it.
