Muscat – Oman enjoys three to four months of winter every year. What makes winters in Oman the best time to visit is the pleasant weather, which is neither too cold to force you stay indoors, nor too hot to make you feel uncomfortable when out in the sun.

Winters in Oman allow visitors to experience the highly diverse terrain and topography of the country, which cannot be otherwise enjoyed completely during the rest of the year. Also, winters here mean to put on your adventure shoes and get in the wilderness to explore the real beauty of Oman.

Oman has mesmerising deserts and beautiful mountains. The best option to attract visitors during the winter season is to create a special economical fare structure for tourists which is otherwise quite high during the winter season. Muscat should have a floating restaurant, which will serve as an added attraction.

The best way to make Oman more popular is to have more winter activities and events for the gastronomically adventurous tourists. We can have stalls of international food at Muttrah and Seeb Corniche as well as in marinas. Of course, prices will have to more affordable than what we find in star hotels. This will also boost the economy at the grassroots level.

Oman’s winters are pleasant and exciting in contrast to the harsh winters that people face in the western world. During this season, Oman becomes more vibrant with the nature being at its best. To attract more tourists during the winter months, we can organise film and music festivals, besides organising more international championships in various fields of sports. When Oman becomes the host of more international events, it will in turn encourage more tourists to come and enjoy the pristine beauty and warm hospitality of Oman.

We can have more sporting events in the country during this time. This will engage people as well as attract investments. The best example has been the recently concluded FIFA World Cup in Qatar that was held during the winter months. Another idea can be to have more outdoor activities. It is also the time to organise various festivals, while Muscat can work on something on the lines of Dubai Shopping Festival.

More events and more outdoors activities must be promoted at a reasonable price during the winter months. This is the time for international tourists to visit Oman; and I think that there must be some special passes and privileges (at least for a few months) for them. This shall benefit the country and we must capitalise on this.
