21mX6m door in Ibra sets Guinness record

7 Dec 2022 By MOHAMMED TAHA

Muscat – A 21m tall and 6m wide door made in Ibra with palm trees and plastic waste was officially listed by Guinness World Records as the largest door made from recycled materials on November 29.

Created by Al Aaqil al Ahliya Enterprises (Oman PVC), the handmade door is studded with 52 decorative bolts.

The door was displayed to officials of Guinness World Records on November 29 coinciding with the 52nd National Day.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Khalid Mohammed al Khalifeen, owner of Oman PVC, said, “We started handcrafting the door six months ago and contacted the Guinness World Records who were excited with the idea.”

Khalifeen described the process of making the door with plastic waste and palm fronds as very challenging. “However, teamwork helped. Plastic waste and palm fronds were collected from Muscat, Barka, Amerat, and some wilayats of North Sharqiyah. The making process was also very time consuming, requiring a lot of patience.”

According to Khalifeen, the objective behind making the door is to spread awareness on the dangers of plastic waste and the need to recycle palm tree waste to increase national income.

“With this door project we hope to spread the culture of recycling among young people, while urging people to throw waste in designated places and use reusable bags for shopping.”

Sponsored by North Sharqiyah Governor’s Office and completed with the help of 45 volunteers, the door is likely to be placed at the entrance of the governorate, Khalifeen informed.
